Volunteering for Little OrchidsAt Little Orchids volunteers are valued and make a significant contribution to the work in the centre and enhance the service offered to parents and children by widening the experience of the children and being representative of our diverse community.

We recognise volunteers as a core part of our team with a distinctive but complimentary role alongside paid staff.  Each volunteer has a different reason for volunteering from those who have free time, wish to help the centre in any way, those who wish to gain experience and others who want to give something back after their family have benefited from the service.

We hope that whatever your reason for volunteering with us you will have a great experience and you have the opportunities to gain experience, learn new skills, gain new information and meet new people through interacting with staff, parents, professionals, children, students and other volunteers.

Your Contribution is Appreciated and Celebrated!

We want to ensure that your experience is the best possible and as a result are working towards the Investing in Volunteers quality standard. If you would like more information on Investing in Volunteers please speak to the Centre Manager.

Equality and Diversity

At Little Orchids we are committed to providing equality of opportunity to all persons when developing, co-ordinating and supporting volunteering.

We welcome and embrace diversity in regards to religious belief, political opinion, social backgrounds, ethnic and national origins, sex, sexual orientation, disability or age. This brings a community perspective and a broader point of view to our work.

Introduction and Settling-in Period

You will be provided with an induction and will receive information and training to help you settle in and feel confident in your role.

We really hope you enjoy volunteering with us! However in case there are any initial worries, we treat the first 4 - 6 weeks you spend with us as a settling-in period. This settling-in period is to ensure that both you and the organisation are happy that you are in the right role. When appropriate, we can adapt roles to suit the needs, abilities and interests of the volunteer.

At the end of the settling-in period we will have a review meeting to decide if the role is right for you and to see if you have any concerns or maybe change some of the tasks you’re doing, or you may be interested in other volunteering roles. Volunteers can refuse demands they consider unrealistic or they feel is beyond the scope of their role or that they do not have the skills to carry out.

It may be that during this discussion either you or Little Orchids may decide that they wish to draw the volunteering relationship to an end. If this is the case, we will endeavour to signpost you to alternative roles or organisations which may suit you interests, skills and talents.
